Away
I walked along the street slowly, as I would on any day
I cried just as slowly, holding my hand over the deep cut in my heart
Tears fell on my chest as I looked down at the wound
I continued to walk
Always moving, moving away from the pain
Away from the ones I had called my friends, far, far, away
I thought: when you are stabbed in the back, it’s your heart that hurts
I walked onward, ever onward, far, far away
I let them go
I felt it: a tiny release
A feeling of lightness, as if I had just let a balloon go
I stared up at the sky, and I saw the ones I had called my friends
Floating upward, ever upward, far, far, away
