I Am From
I am from books and music
from a short fluffy dog waiting to greet me
I am from the weeds and the yellow muddy grass
from a big round pool and a bouncy trampoline
I am from the big Aspen tree
from the broken toy cars and dolls
left in the gutter forgotten
I’m from Marissa, William and Macky
I’m from never say never
as long as you did your best
and your mind is a powerful thing
I’m from Bible verses that I learned every Sunday
From sweet smelling turkey and lasagna
in my basement were old scrapbooks
also stacks of dusty old boxes filled with memories
in my room was my special white wooden shelf
on it were nick-knacks and old sports trophies
in my life there is also an empty box
waiting to be filled with more memories
