She sits against a shadowed wall.
Safer there, she will not fall.
She watches people as they dance.
On her, they ever take a chance.
And when a hand does come her way,
she whispers that she'll be okay.
But even so, the hand insists
and slowly turns into a fist.
Scared, she tries to run away
but someone comes to save her day.
Another face offers its hand.
Startled. This, she had not planned.
But happy that she did accept,
her fear is quickly from her swept.
And as a smile comes to her face,
she feels as though she's found her place.
When she gets home, her feet are sore.
A wallflower, she is no more.
