The Blade

As it glistens in its box,
you can see the once sharp point,
the wooden handle cracked from the years,
the worn metal which still gleams.
If you listen closely
History unfolds--
stories speaking of freedom from the king,
mournful memories of brother against brother,
the downhearted demise of innocent men in the trenches,
the frownful freedom of the bodies from the ovens,
as it glistens in the box
