Growing Up
I am a leaf,
Floating on a gust of wind,
Spiraling towards Earth,
With my head in the clouds.
All of my companions are still.
They flutter slightly in the breeze.
They are tethered to that tree,
That tree of security.
But I am that brave one,
That takes the first leap.
As they watch in awe,
They can’t help but want to jump with me.
They can’t wait to let go,
To be on their own.
As soon as they see,
That I have survived the fall of growing up.
