I'll give you a window of opportunity to impress me. Hurry, this thing's closing fast.

The bleached bone-white grip of despair
Settles over us all
A sweet cherry-lipped girl dances in circles
And no one can look at her.

Settling over us all
That hazy recollection of better days
No one can look at it
As it sputters and fades away

The hazy recollection of better days
Without all the seeping, time-sharpened regret
As it sputters and fades away
Leaves a shimmering crystal of a promise

Without all the seeping, time sharpened regret
The bleached bone-white grip of despair
Leaves a shimmering crystal of a promise
As a sweet cherry-lipped girl dances in circles

The author's comments:
This is called a pontoum poem; lines 2 and 4 of the first stanza become lines 1 and 3 in the next sanza, and so on. The last stanza combines the stanza before it and the first one. The idea is to come full circle.
