Red
Red is the color of life running through you fragile veins.
Red is the color of the devil.
Red is the color of the brief light we see before the world is enveloped in darkness.
Red is the color the fire burns before it engulfs his house.
Red is the color of the heart I draw on your hand when you are sad.
Red is the color your face gets when you become enraged.
Red is the color of the Red Cross, the people born to save her.
Red is the color of the blood that covers his body, shot dead by people born to kill him.
Red is the color of the wild strawberries you pick for my birthday.
Red is the color of your cheeks when you forget your own.
Red is the color of the shirt Daddy was wearing the day it died.
Red is the color of lipstick Mommy wore to the funeral you convinced us to have.
Red is the color of the scarlet ibis crumbling through the bleeding tree.
Red is the color of my tears when you crumbled into my arms.

That was so sad an beautiful all at once. I've never seen so many mixed associations with the color red. And so powerfully spoken! My favorite lines were:
"Red is the color of the brief light we see before the world is enveloped in darkness.
Red is the color the fire burns before it engulfs his house.
Red is the color of the heart I draw on your hand when you are sad.
Red is the color your face gets when you become enraged."
You are a born poet.
I hope your sadness heals. But I didn't understand how tears could be red. Is that a metaphor for blood.
