Promise
Both a good habit and bad
Depending on its portrayal
It must be handled with care
And yet we are foolish and clumsy
It is our way of life
To make them and sell them
To anyone who'll buy
To any who are trusting
But the mor that are made
The less there are kept
And because of those lost
They've become hard to believe
They fill us with hope
In the darkest of times
They hurt like hell to keep
Even worse when they are broken
For a child they mean everything
To an adult they are worthless
For a youth can trust and believe
A valued skill lost with age
