The World Stopped Turning

A small, pale child tumbled down a well
Into death’s arms he quietly fell
Then the world paused on its axis -
Minutes halted their soldiering steps -
Silence fell solemn over the earth’s depths
Rests a veil upon all creatures
Mourning a death unknown to Power
Oh, the smashed bones and hearts each hour!
When will the world once more suspend -
Pull the reins on dashing Time again -
To keep Sabbath weeping the Fall of Men?
