As I Stand
As I stand by the pool, reflecting upon
the endless sky above and below,
Tears fall like a soft spring rain,
disturbing the mirror’s peace.
Here, in this icon of beauty and balance,
lies the one who made my world revolve,
Who made my sun rise and set;
cold and dead like the marble around him.
I come here often, and tell him of my days,
talking as though he were alive,
Yet in this place that brings others hope and joy
lies my greatest sorrow.
As we grew older, and this place was built,
we talked of death and the next life.
You promised we’d be together, since it seemed
we had been time and time before,
Soaring on jet-black wings in the next life
like the birds above the pool I’m staring into.
And now I wonder… are you one of them?
are you looking down, waiting for me to join you?
So now as another Indian sun is setting,
a new day is dawning, as well.
As one life ends, another begins
and two souls mount up on raven’s wings.
