The Hit and Run
He was home again, she knew
He was mad, she could hear it in his footsteps
Quivering, she ran
Shaking, she tried to find a place to hide
He barged into her room yelling
Screaming it was her fault
What did she do?
Was she bad?
How did she make him so mad?
Was it her fault?
Why was it her he did this to?
Finally he stopped,
The beating ended
Pain was swelled within her
Fear stopped her from moving
He had left the room,
The bruises remained
She told them she was clumsy
That she had bumped into things
She never told a soul
She always felt so small
She was afraid;
She was scared
He came again, the night after
She screamed she was sorry
None of it mattered
None of it was heard
What did she do?
Was she bad?
How did she make him so mad?
Was it her fault?
Why was it her he did this to?
She walked through school
Caught up in secrets
Bruises covered her
She told them that she had tripped
No one could know
She was terrified
She was lost
Again, he came
Again, he yelled
Again, he hit
Like a hit and run,
It happened in the blink of an eye that night
It was unimaginable what had happened to her
What did she do?
Was she bad?
How did she make him so mad?
Was it her fault?
Why was it her he did this to?
That was the end, she decided
She talked,
She told,
She was rescued
She was safe
She had not done anything
She was not bad
She did nothing to make him mad
It was not her fault
There was no reason why he did this to her
But she had spoken,
She was safe
