Where I’m From
I am from a loving home,
From adidas and gym shoes,
I am from the baseball diamond down the road
It passes like the wind
I am from tiring football games
the supportive parents
whose loud cheers I remember
as if they were my own.
I’m from skyline and action figures,
From Ellen and Chuck.
I’m from the treat others the way you want to be treated
and the give it your all at everything you do,
From shut up! And sit down!
I’m from Guys Like Me
With a tiny white dog
and way to go, good job.
I’m from Cincinnati and Gatlinburg
Spicy buffalo wings and bubbly sodas
From the little league team winning the title and
the football team winning state!
Under my bed was a warm blanket
spilling red kool-aid
a sift of magazines underneath
to drift down the Cumberland River.
I am from those moments
I’ll never forget
hanging from my family tree.
