The Chase
What are you
But a soulless shell
Filling my head with lies?
What are you
But my inner demon
Creeping up behind
Me.
Running away,
Deeper into the dark.
There’s no escape
No end to find
Where these walls twist and wind.
Is that a light I see
Way out there
Getting dimmer with every step?
You
Catch up to me,
Reach for my hand.
I feel your fingers
Around my wrist.
Cold. Black. Dead.
Is this it?
Where my story ends?
Where destiny takes over?
I never thought
It would come to this
Sad state of affairs.
Oh well.
It’s too late now,
I’d better rest my head.
For what do I have
To wait for now
But the sweet and bitter end?
