The Jasper Key
Atop the peak of the world I stand
Even snow is falling in awe
To be cast from Heaven’s now near shore
And drift to this sacred-seemed spot.
Understanding here breathes vast
I hear the whispers of old trees
Wisdom hindered by reason,
Has been lent the Jasper Key
The sight of all does seem strange
Contrasted it seems to me
As lightning slicing a sunny day
Or wine cast on the sea.
The contrast of all the worlds at once
My sight had been funneled before
So little had I really seen
Sight through the keyhole of an open door
This door? The things forgotten.
Or lost upon the years?
Of sights and sounds unheard of
Yet sweet within my ears
Now the haze of reality comes
Confusing my watchful eye
Now all seems much too far away
And failing is my sight
Outside my ear is a tapping
Perhaps proud crowing of a bird?
Though likely it previously came to me
I deny I ever heard
Returned is my sight’s hindrance
Gone is wine upon the sea
I must hasten the long daylight hours
To find the Jasper Key
