Just Let Me Be Me
“You’ve changed.”
It’s what I hear every day of my life.
How I used to be smart, kind, sweet, and innocent.
“I don’t like the person you’ve become.”
Yet another phrase that tears me up inside.
I’m sorry that I make mistakes.
I’m trying, I really am.
I know I’m not perfect, yes I have my flaws.
But I’m changing, and I’m learning.
Isn’t that what high school is about?
I’m just looking for myself.
I don’t want your help.
Let me handle this on my own.
I am my own person, and I will do what I want.
Don’t try to define me.
Let me find myself and rediscover the happiness.
Just let me be me.
