As I ice the sting of what deeply hurts,
Flames lick and fire burns.
I stand up with faith unknown
Not until all glory’s shone.
I see hurt within their eyes.
I hear all their desperate cries
Deep inside my aching heart
But I’m too scared to reach into the dark.
I want to do what I know is right
I want to restore their light
But fear takes me over
And I shy away from the tugging red rover.
Why must this take me away
From what I long to keep? I pray
That all that I have ever known
Will help so I’m not alone.
I long to reach out and grasp their hands
To pull them out of sinking sand
That has pulled them in and tried to drown them
But I wrap my arms around them
And pull them out from the fear
Of the water so unclear.
I look into each one’s eyes
And assure them that love never dies
That love is found deep in their soul
Whenever, wherever, and will keep them whole.
Though they won’t always be safe,
They will always have a place
To go in peace
When life’s wars cease.

I wrote this at one in the morning to express my desire to reach out to the orphans in the world and help them and give them a home.
