Victim
The earth trembles.
Quaking with
a terrifying resonance,
she awakens a community
lost in its night’s dreams.
The ground, thirsty for a sip,
opens its mouth
gasping for a drink.
Its lips lay parched and dry.
Houses, like contortionists,
bend and break,
their walls like limbs—
mangled.
The earth has quaked,
disclosing its unhappiness.
But now the sun ascends,
releasing rays of optimism
to the devastated land.
