Surrounded
When your light shines
even the dust will dance for you.
When your breath blows
the trees will twirl too.
Sometimes when you speak
our ears will turn to listen,
But not always.
Often we are deaf.
I see the grass around me
shining back at you.
Why don’t we shine for you too?
Why don’t we breathe the way you do?
The trees, at least, have got it right.
The bird also,
who soars above.
He is closer to you than I am.
But yet I swing here, thinking,
low to the ground.
My heart is held to you.
Close as you surround
