A Hitch Hiker Finds Suburbia
He's eyes in him like a father
Though certainly not mine.
"Good Luck," says Dad, "Finding a minivan who'll stop
For a fatherly figure
with a hiker's pack and ruined grey sneakers.
He turns his thumb toward the sky
And attempts a sunny smile
on the cold, misty shoulder of the road
where the rainy runoff
makes his eyes close
To the Dad's in minivans
To the opposites
of the life he chose.
