It Was My Fault
It was my fault-I know that
But why couldn't you tell the truth?
It was my fault-I accept that
But why couldn't you help me through?
It was my fault-I believe that
But what do I have to do
To make you see I'm paying for it With everything I go through?
It was my fault-it's obvious
But I think you should see
My side of the story
And maybe you'll believe
That it was my fault-we know it
But there was nothing else I could do.
I was told so many things
I didn't know what to believe
Some said you were just a jerk
Others said that we could make it work.
Some said to guard my heart;
Others, to let it show.
They all said you were dangerous
But I think you should know:
That you're not the first to make me cry
You're not the first to make me wish I could die
You're not the first to make my world shatter
You're not the first to watch the pieces scatter
You're not the first to cause me pain
You're not the only one to blame
You're not the first to break my heart
You're not the first to make me fall apart.
I'm staring at my pieces now-
All scattered across the floor
And-I know somehow
That you won't walk through that door
And sweep me off my feet again.
And, no, I don't think we can be friends.
But thanks a lot
For making me see
That happy stories
Are only in movies
And if you want love
You can go screw yourself
Because it's not gonna happen
Unless you're in a book on the shelf
And-Thanks for making me see-
That I am not a princess
And you're not a charming knight
And people don't ride off into the sunset
Unless they've lost their minds
I let you in
And you tore me apart
You're the finishing touch
On my broken heart
You were the last straw:
Now it's scattered across the floor
And I'll never find all the pieces:
No, I'll never be whole
Because you were the only heart
Who ever spoke to my soul.
But, whatever if I need you-
I can learn to live without.
And so what if I waited on you?
The words are never coming out.
You're made your decision
Now I'm going to make mine.
You've stated your position
Now I just want you out of my life.
And the worst part of this stanza is
That that was just a lie-
I need you like I need to breathe,
Even if you make me cry.
And don't you dare walk out on me-
I'd rather slowly die.
And I can withstand torture from you:
You can't make me say goodbye.
Because, the appalling truth is,
I need you in my life.
