Sugar
A sun fell and rolled down the hill so we
Carved lemon cakes, with layers, in a scrunch,
Out of its edges. For drink we brewed tea
From sapphires and mixed a savory punch.
Our bread rose as the clouds collected rain.
Creamy icing, of rainbows from the blue
Sky melted on our tongues, lit up our brains.
Had syringes of sugar and into
Veins injected sprinkles inside our arms.
Grains of hope were emptied from the shrooms that
Turned out were not marshmallow lucky charms.
On the sidewalk, I trapped a gummy rat.
I swallowed the rat, it stained my mouth pink.
It wouldn’t be cleansed by a sapphire drink.
