Just One Night
A still road reflects the frantic rain
pooling in the concaves of the sidewalk.
Words fall like tears to the page
leaving a bitter taste and a buried love.
Uncertainty engulfs the weak light.
A palpable tension fills the room,
clogging the air for
each laborious breath.
The monotony of the scratching,
the etching of thoughts—
pencil to paper
slices the silence.
I am the single set of footsteps
in a field of untouched snow.
