There I lie
Facedown on my pillow
Waiting for
The sun to rise
I had many
Sleepless nights
And dreamt not a dream
Those nights
With eyes wide open
Counting the hours
That go by
If I tried to sleep
I don’t dream dreams
But nightmares
Nightmares of
My death
My family’s death
Or twisted morbid things
That haunt my memories
That’s why
I lie awake
Waiting for
The sun to rise
