Heart on a String
I know of many people
Who desire a lover,
Who need to know all
That love’s wings will bring.
Yet the one that I give
My lovely heart to
Is not any other,
No other than you.
It’s you that I love;
Your spirit is pure,
A gift from above
That few people see.
I hope you accept
This gift that I bring,
This imperfect present,
This heart on a string.
I love you much more
Than the stars and the sun;
The angels in heaven,
They envy but one.
Not the moon or the clouds,
Nor the sky that is blue.
The one that they envy
That person is you.
It’s now that I ask
With the humblest of souls
If you would receive
My gift to your whole.
Just know that I love you
For all that you are;
That you I will follow
To places afar.
The one that I give
My beating heart to
Is not any other;
No other than you.
