The Box
I swiftly slip down the stairs
To the huge mantle in front of me
and gently turn the knob
To expose a beauty
Incandescent little pearls
Gleaming gold inlay
The burgundy shining back like a mirror
The cameo looking back with perfect check bones
The hair coiffed up with pride
Her eyes so determined
Her smile so flawless
Her pose so uncanny
I slip the box back
where it has rested in peace
For many years
And where is will remain
As i rush silently
Up the stairs,
The feeling
Of the pearls, the box, the beauty
Still remains on my finger tips
And every night I go to my precious friend
Like visiting an old world, over and over again
