Erika
With the world around her closed
To what she was limited to know,
She saw life as it was;
Never once over-thinking what could have been.
Her hope-filled eyes captured the soul,
Unselfishly claiming part for herself.
Breaking her caring gaze
Only to throw her head back in laughter.
Live.
Laugh.
Love.
Was all that she knew.
Everyday was a challenge,
But complaining was no option.
Her legs were crippled,
But her heart was not.
She held my hands
In her single good one,
And she called me her friend.
For that,
I was.
