The sun has yet to set beneath
The burning horizon,
To dig its amber teeth
Into the soil of the mountain

And I sit here to watch, wasting
Daylight, perhaps, but also
Enjoying my time here with you, waiting
For dusk to take hold, the sun to go

To some distant corner of the earth
I’ve yet to see, but being with you
On the eve of twilight fills me with mirth
And I know that you’re contented with me too

Even as we’re smothered in darkness
And the stars pull the blanket of the sky
Back we share the rapture of a kiss
Before we must part with a softly spoken, “Goodbye”
