It Only Takes One
As he enters the burning building,
A million thoughts are running through his mind.
He feels every emotion possible,
All at the same time.
And even though he’s done this a thousand times,
He is still not used to it.
People watch him as he runs inside,
As he wonders if he’ll make it back out this time.
He puts everything on the line,
To save yet another life,
Of someone who he doesn’t even know.
His heart is beating so fast
He can’t even feel it anymore.
He searches the house
For anyone he can find.
Anticipation awaits everyone outside.
The house burns into flames,
Tears start falling to the ground.
And just when everyone has given up hope,
He appears out of nowhere,
With the little boy in his arms.
The sad tears soon become happy ones.
He is a firefighter.
But more than that, he is just a person,
Like everyone else.
The only thing that sets him apart from us,
Is that he has never given up taking a chance,
When he has everything to lose, every single time.
