The Struggle
I am no stranger to the word “no” or the phrase “I don’t have it”
When your parents are on a fixed income, those words become a habit
There were plenty of times my mom didn’t have the money when I asked
So I feel left out when I see my friends with shopping bags
As far as education is concerned, I was never in science and tech
Now that I look back on it, there’s nothing I really regret
My GPA says one thing yet my SAT scores say something different
But who’s fault is that? Because I know I’m not illiterate
Where I’m from, most kids only have one parent instead of two
Its not always easy but we know we’re going to make it through
We struggle, we persevere, we want to make it out the hood
So we will always be stronger than the people who always had it good
