The World I Knew
In the world I knew
Was solitude and fear.
But I told myself
‘I am happy here.’
In the world I knew
I refused to come out.
Questioning my worth
Thoughts foggy with doubt.
In the world I knew
Kept my heart in a box.
Threw the key to the shadows
And secured the lock.
This love is mine
Sharing leads to loss.
(Yet I pledged my loyalty
with fingers crossed.)
And that’s when he came
Into the world I knew.
Lock’s frost melted away
And the light shone through.
And the world I knew
Was under attack.
My control was slipping
I needed my heart back.
Mind roared ‘send him away.’
Body quavered in fear.
Shy voice from within said
‘Maybe, let him stay here?’
So I took a leap
And learned to trust.
Thought maybe the world I knew
Just wasn’t enough.
