Courage
They don’t understand how you are still here.
They expect you to break, but you do not.
Stepping out into the burning sun, as it melted your skin away.
Their icy stares bore into your back, but you stand up tall.
As the skin falls, you still stand up tall.
Your mind stays open and unafraid,
knowing what lies ahead.
The casket mocks you, and chills run down your spine.
But you do not turn away.
The spirit surrounds you, as a lone tear streaks your face.
Sadness and grief build and build in you, but you keep a straight face.
Showing no fear, and no sadness.
Skipping, while everyone else is walking.
Singing, while everyone else is talking.
Laughing, while everyone else is mocking.
You seem to be alone, facing the world head on.
But you know that you are not the only one.
There are those out there who want to be what you are.
Do what you are doing.
Your happy smile dances across your face, showing them the way.
They don’t understand how you are still here.
They expect you to break, but you do not.
Until they walk in your shoes they will never understand.
But that’s ok.
You’ll wait, and maybe one day they will understand.
Maybe they will some day understand that,
this is what courage really is.
