I will find extraterrestrial life
I am going to be the first female president
I want to be on Broadway
I am going to find a cure for cancer
I will be the next Picasso
I am going to win the Nobel Peace Prize
I want to win an Olympic medal
------------------------------------------------------------
I can swim on my high school team
I can join clubs and fundraise for the underprivileged
I can paint my heart out until my fingers are numb
I can research and study about the illness of cancer
I can star in high school plays or musicals
I can be my high school’s student body president
I can learn to walk before I can run

The author's comments:
One of the most integral concepts teens face when maturing out of childhood and into adolescence is learning how to narrow dreams and focus on plausible opportunities. The first stanza describes all of our wishes and aspirations when we were children, yet the second stanza correlates those dreams to actions we carry out as responsible, realistic teenagers. The dreams in the first stanza start out as impossibly fantastic and narrow down into rare but possible, and each line of the second stanza directly corresponds to another line in the first stanza.
