Dear Congressmen,

Blend the political spectrum

Change your seat in the House

Part your bias or bigotry

Stop making concessions

Leave your party in support

In bipartisan support

Of a debt deal that can break the impasse

Which has frozen America.

Sincerley,

Repubocrat Demolican

P.S. Because some things matter more

Than what you are against and for

Please just fix America’s core.

The author's comments:
In the summer of 2011, Washington and the entire nation were locked in a debt crisis that ultimately was a stalemate for such a long time because congressmen were unwilling to stand alone from their parties. In fact, even President Barack Obama couldn’t put aside his mellow personality to aggressively craft a plan that would fix America’s economic and financial problems. Instead, he devised a plan that would merely please both parties without actually fixing anything. This poem was written before the debt deal was passed, yet its call for unity is still applicable for political progress in the recession.
