After The Water Consumed Us
I went to your funeral
You were crying by the urinals
With eyes that seemed so terminal
 To see that I'd survived

So I asked you how you got away
You said those awful things you say
I guess laughter is the price we pay
 For going way too far

 Dear, I read your diary
 I admit not quite entirely
I hope you wont require me
To tell you what I thought

You spit out all your pestilence
Then let the evening's mass commence
 Snarling at your impotence
And the surge of pure emotion

 The priest said "We commemorate
This young girl who has met her fate"
 I watched as everybody ate
 Their savior here revived

 I can't say it didn't hurt
To see you slip out of your skirt
And dig your feet into the dirt
 Before getting in my car

As my right hand was shifting gears
You whispered something in my ear
It sounded like "I love you, dear.
I don't know why we ever fought."

 I said "I don't remember much"
Then sped up when I felt your touch
My left foot eased off of the clutch
As we headed for the ocean
