Child Crying
The child at the end of the slide
is crying. His hands, swiping
at tracks of tears that fall
from his eyes.
And the world around him
is rushing, people moving toward a near future,
minds working but giving no thought to
the child, so completely still
in the mud that covers
the playground, while the other
kids run in circles teasing and joking, he is crying
with streaks of dirt on each cheek.
