Subway
He stands
Gripping the overhead bar
His body swaying
With the motion of
The train
Around him there is movement
And sound
Gentle Breathing Murmured Conversations
A baby in the back
He stands
Looking but not Watching
The people around him
He does not hear them
The people around him
They are not part of his world
The world of One
A white speaker
In each ear
That is his world
He appears to be no
Different than
The people around him
But he is
The ultimate insider
Of the Pounding Beat
The Belting Chorus
His pulsing Heart
They are just outside
The sphere of music
That fills his head
(The people around him)
The world of One
The train lurches
A bell dings
He comes to life
The sphere is broken
But when he leaves the train
The music follows
The people around him
They remain Uncaring
Unobservant
Unaware
Of the fantastic phenomenon
That just transgressed
Before their eyes
In the earbuds of a stranger
On a subway
