Masks
we all wear masks
whether we know or not
we wear one to the store
and one to school
only rarely do we take them off
my masks conceal my fears
of not being good enough
or what my true self is
i know the masks are there
but i leave them on
my masks cover up my pain
the pain that none know
every comment and every joke
forms another piece of my new mask
i hate my masks
yet i can’t live without them
i guess this poem is just another mask
for me to carry
