Another smile, another tear.
Another laugh, another fear.
Beauty shrouds a heart of pain.
A quiet wind to hide a violent rain.


She hid her thoughts within herself
And hid the truth of what she felt.
Displayed a mask of something pleasant,
She must live in a world like Heaven.


But all she felt was so alone
Like a skeleton of faded bone.
Without a friend inside her heart,
She felt so distant, so apart.


No one knew and no one cared
So she never felt the need to share.
All she wanted was for someone to ask
To see what lay behind the mask.


She did not think herself a liar;
She told herself she was a fighter
To hide her feelings, thoughts, her pain:
She was unhappy but unashamed.


Trapped, she was, in the chains of her mind:
Cold, alone, and forever blind.
Bound, imprisoned to the darkest thoughts
Inside her own web was she caught.


Although she knew it wasn't likely
She dreamed of a dawn lit so brightly.
A friend to reach beyond the front she showed,
To see, deep down, the truth untold.


She dreamed he would, one day, appear.
He'd reach out and save her from her fear.
He'd speak the words she wanted him to ask.
He'd be the one to remove the mask.
