My peripheral vision reveals your gaze
Your eyes watch me closely through this moral haze
Dark ocean at nighttime, no irises clear
The pure light of the moon cannot gleam here
But not evil darkness, where the witches play
The embrace of your midnight is where I feel safe
You try to look solemn but your grin flashes through
A serious composure will never suit you
I cover my smile and shift my gaze to the floor
You’re twelve inches away, now seven, now four…
Five thousand miles were between us, but no distance remains
I press my face to your shoulder, thankful we haven’t changed
All magic is finite, so as the sun rears its head
I watch you rub your eyes and wish you’d stay here instead
You can read what I’m thinking and ward off my fear
The angels are calling but we will not hear
Sins cast me from Heaven but they hold you down too
God’s kingdom is nothing if I’m not with you
