The Sunflower
There was a field
There was a patch
And in the patch,
That was in a field,
Was a sunflower
The sunflower was shaded by trees,
But grew none the less,
It was nibbled by birds,
Pestered by bees,
And pelted by butterflies,
But did it die, no, it lived on
No matter the season,
No matter the weather,
The sunflower grew
It had a rich, brown heat
And a crown of gold
At times its leaves fell,
And its seeds, they scattered,
But our sunflower grew
Then, a boy came,
To the field,
And to the patch
He pulled the sunflower,
With care,
From the dirt
He took the sunflower from the patch,
From the field,
To a cart
In the cart was a tin bucket,
And in the bucket was dirt
The boy put the sunflower,
So beautiful,
In the bucket
He drove the cart to a house,
He put the sunflower by a bed
By the bed was a woman,
The woman was pale, and she held a baby
But she was smiling
She took the sunflower,
Smelling it's sent,
And laughed
A man came,
Smiling,
And took the baby
And there the sunflower stayed,
In the house,
By a window,
With the boy,
The baby,
Laughing woman,
And the smiling man
The sunflower looked to the sun,
And flourished with the love of a family
