Through the vast forsaken valleys,
Past the slowly rolling hills and lakes,
The wind combing through the long green grass
Glistening against the sun’s tranquil rays

Towering over the wind’s tender exhale
Lie the sugary smiles of the sweeping skies
And traversing the boundless plains
The animals emit their gentle cries

But past the endless countryside
Lie my elderly childhood abode
Beyond hours of timely travel
Across every serpentine road

But as I stood in ghostly awe
Gazing at the deserted reminiscence
Swept with layers of feral ivy
As I tried to keep my distance

This house represents my darkening heart
And the ivy my soul’s conquering shadows
For now the house blends perfectly together
With the rest of the dismal rolling meadows

For while this home has been dwindling year after year
My soul has been doing the same
Because the house I grew up in is more than a house
It is a piece of my soul now aflame

As I have been steadily growing up
Changing and morphing into me
My childhood home has always been there
To cuddle, to shelter, and to see

But as we change every single day,
I realize that our homes change no less
Though the rolling hills and valleys remain
For my faithful home I am blessed

I was inspired to write this poem when I returned to my old house. It looked very abandoned and forlorn, so I wrote this metaphorical poem; your home represents you as you and your emotions change.
