How could there be any question of acquiring or possessing, when the one thing needful for a man is to become - to be at last, and to die in the fullness of his being.
- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

There is a place called Loneliness
where I currently reside,
bewildered by what path did lead here
and which to outward ride.
The people here they do not see me,
except to nod a head,
and read politely of their lines,
with nothing to be said.
They smile when I smile,
and nod correctly at each pause,
and laugh when its appropriate,
but never without cause;
for laughter masks the silence,
the silence in my heart,
that pangs me the most fiercely
when once more I'm apart.
I would ask of you but listen,
if only you would care,
enough to change your act,
enough that I should dare.
