Sweet Darling Girl
In the storm she stood, lightning ripped the sky
Grateful for the rain so no one could see her crying
Not letting go, clutching the pieces of her broken soul
It’s all she has, her hope torn to shreds, she nears the edge
Always afraid of falling, and all her lucky stars are gone.
He wanted to hold her tight, so close to him, and set her free
The way that she was meant to be
To take her hand, lead her away
From her world of ever-fading gray, and whisper:
“Oh, oh sweet darling girl” don’t you frown
The world is such a lonely place without your smile.
Such a beautiful, mysterious girl
He found the storm she hid inside and told her she needed to
Count the stars on cloudless nights
He opened her eyes and showed her a world
She was afraid she’d never see
And said: “I would do anything; you are
Everything to me. I adore you so be happy.”
He walked with her down a dead-end road
And said to say nothing, just to say nothing
And for the first time she was on her way.
He held her tight, so close to him, and set her free
The way that she was meant to be
Took her hand, led her away
From the world of ever-fading gray, and whispered:
“Oh, oh sweet darling girl” don’t you frown
The world is such a lonely place without your smile.
‘Cause she’s his good luck charm, his shooting star
She takes his breath away
He’s her inspiration, her saving grace
And there are no perfect words
She knows she doesn’t need to say anything at all
Because the storm is just a memory now.
He holds her tight, so close to him and sets her free
The way that she was meant to be
Takes her hand, leads her away
From a world of ever fading-gray, and whispers:
“Oh, oh sweet darling girl”
She’s so glad he found her
Because he taught her how to smile.
