We broke up last winter but not on our terms,
She’d become pregnant and her parents had learned.
She was so far along, how couldn’t they have seen
How beautiful a vessel their daughter had been?
They fought and fought until we nearly went deaf,
That’s about the time I knew it’d be better if I left.

Before I left she touched my cheek,
I opened my mouth but couldn’t speak.
She looked at my lips, looked deeply into my eyes,

A short time passes and there she stands,
A miniature me sound asleep in her hands.
