Orwellian Future Up Close
Leaky roof
Creaky bed
Empty cupboard
Throbbing head
Worry lines
Growing deeper
Pointed rifles
Are gatekeepers
Wife and I
Barely talk
Cold always follows
When I walk
Posters say:
"Life is great"
When was the last time
That I ate?
Days are filled
With only work
It's all but forbidden
For duties to be shirked
We're glassy eyes,
Just flesh and bone
Is it treasonous to say
That I feel alone?

This was inspired by George Orwell’s 1984. While I understand the staggering injustices of such an authoritarian government, I find the everyday struggles in such a world to be just as tragic.
