Imperialism

Imperialism.
We wanted to take over the world.

Some things never change.

With our
superior culture.
superior race.
superior religion

Being different is a sin.

Let’s convert you.
Everyone has to be like us.

History repeats itself.

An ongoing epidemic
of insanity.
A cycle—never ending.

When will it stop?
When will it there be a female president?
A Muslim president?
A gay president?
A combination?

When will it be acceptable to be different?
Encouraged to be different?

Next week?
Next year?
Next life?

I won’t continue for the rest of eternity stuck in a cement pit of
yes and no
right and wrong
good and bad
prejudice.

Don’t tell me what to think. I’ll decide.

A convoluted
corrupt
twisted
stubborn
society.

Why is it such a crime to be different?
To be who you are
And be proud of it?

To be locked away
by disgusted
affronted
stares.

A prison without walls.

Why
does it matter
what they think?

I’ll
hold my chin up.
let their glares bounce off.
unperturbed.

There they go.
Walking as if they own the world
Still trying to
