“Supposing there was no intelligence behind the universe, no creative mind. In that case, nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking. It is merely that when the atoms inside my skull happen, for physical or chemical reasons, to arrange themselves in a certain way, this gives me, as a by-product, the sensation I call thought. But, if so, how can I trust my own thinking to be true? It's like upsetting a milk jug and hoping that the way it splashes itself will give you a map of London. But if I can't trust my own thinking, of course I can't trust the arguments leading to Atheism, and therefore have no reason to be an Atheist, or anything else. Unless I believe in God, I cannot believe in thought: so I can never use thought to disbelieve in God.”

Sung to the tune of: It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It's the most distressing time of the year

With the doctors all quelling

And everyone telling you do not come near

It's the most sensible time to fear

It's the nast-nastiest season of all

With those crude six-foot spacings and flippant face casings

No friends to “hey y’all!”

It's the drear-dreariest season of all

There'll be notices posted

‘Bout riots & votings

And rumors of ward overflows

There'll be bad COVID cases

Vaccine making races

Zoom meetings that bring us much woe

It's the most distressing time of the year

There'll be much frantic buying

And people all trying

To grab the TP

It's the most stressful time of the year

“We’re not really boasting

But we’re good at roasting

People who won’t take our vaccines”

“Fauci’s acting like the Tories

Please stop telling stories

You’re doin’ it for all ‘o the dough!”

It's the most depressing time of the year

There'll be much things forgoing

And people not knowing how things really appear

It's the most distressing time

Yes, the most depressing time

Oh, the most confusing time

Of the year

The author's comments:

This ballad is a parody on the lyrics of It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. It started out as a writing assignment, but I just kept going. I hope you can relate and appreciate a comical summary of our past year. Enjoy!

Hi @Lydiaq thanks for the feedback on my poem! My personal quote is by C.S. Lewis. He wrote the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe series and many other books. He is such an inspirational writer and when i ran across this quote it really struck me with how profound it was. It's so interesting how he uses logic to prove God's existence which most people claim is contrary to logic. I hope that answers you're question, let me know if you have any more! :)

That's sad but also funny at the same time...and what's with your personal quote? Seems complicated and cryptic to me.
