Days of Youth
In days of youth, so careless and free,
Two hearts intertwined ever so easily,
A love story unfolds, a familiar story untold,
Of teenage love, both pure and bold.
We drove down windy roads, without a care
Windows rolled down, unaware
A love so innocent, like a new-born baby,
The beginning of a lifetime is what this may be.
Hands interlocked, our feet feel the warm sand,
The waves crashing, pushing out the rest of the world, for us, it’s too bland
The naivety subtly setting in,
We look at each other with love and a grin.
A world that promises a fairy tale love,
Reality: we shove and shove,
Yet, time, skilled at hiding in plain sight
Divulges its truth with an unwanted strike.
For beneath the waves, reality resides,
A love story meets its demise,
We wore rose-colored glasses, unaware,
That teenage love is never a true pair.
As seasons shifted, our symphony changed,
A melody once sweet, now broken and disarranged,
Yet in the midst of a broken heart,
A new chapter will start.
Oh, the agony of teenage love,
We always want to shove and shove.
This wasn’t the beginning of a lifetime,
But a bittersweet end to our climb.
As we mourn the loss of love now in the past,
We’ve gained beloved memories destined to last.
A love so innocent and true,
I know I will never forget you.
In days of youth, so careless and free,
We seem to forget how fragile our hearts can be.
A love story climaxes,
And we say goodbye to those rose-colored glasses.
