Soaring Without You
You say you love me
 My goofy, country accent
 Charm and wit and yet
 You set me free

 Like a caged bird
 You said I was
 You let me go because
These gold wings need to be unfurled

 But I would rather stay
 Given the chance
 Or a warning in advance
I would choose your arms to keep me at bay

 You do not realize
That if I am a bird who is free
 Than you are my tree
Safe and warm, high above danger, able to sympathize

 I need you with me
Like wings need air soaring beneath them
Like trees need life all around them
Like I know you need me

So please, don't let me go
 Keep me here
 With you and without fear
Because this bird, can afford to keep you in tow

After all, where would I go?
Without my heart, in the dark
 Of nature alone, a zone
That will never be my own
But maybe, we can share and together, as a pair, make our own little nest in some tree, forever
