Violent Dreams
Through sunsets burst with rosy hues
And mountain peaks of burning blue
Time draws on with hot, wet eyes
As star-crossed lovers kiss goodbye
Earth adopts a darker shade
And all it’s wanders masquerade;
The sunsets splinter at the seams
And I awake with violent dreams
Of mountain summits, tainted red,
The wounded burying the dead
Endless trenches resemble graves
Do they sheath my lover’s face?
In a sea wrung with despair
Hope is shining, hovering there
It flickers like an attic light
It deafens the relentless night
So if the fire fills your eyes
And you hear gunshots, children’s cries
Gripped with fear but trusting fate
Know that I will pray and wait
